Cut a fresh lemon and extract a few seeds. Rinse them to remove any pulp.
Wrap the seeds in a damp paper towel and place them in a warm, dark spot for about a week. Keep the towel moist but not soggy to help the seeds germinate.
Prepare the pot
Choose a small flowerpot or a cup with drainage holes at the bottom. If using a cup without holes, poke a few with a sharp object to allow excess water to drain.
Place a layer of small stones or gravel at the bottom of the pot to help with drainage.
Add the soil
Fill the pot with potting soil, leaving about an inch of space from the top. Moisten the soil slightly by watering it gently.
Plant the germinated seeds
Once the seeds have sprouted, gently place them into the soil, about ½ inch deep, and cover them with soil.
Water lightly, making sure the soil is damp but not waterlogged.
Caring for the plant
Place the pot in a sunny spot, such as a windowsill. Lemons thrive in sunlight, so aim for 8 hours of sunlight per day.
Water the plant regularly, ensuring the soil stays moist but not oversaturated.
Watch it grow
In a few weeks, you should see a sprout! As the lemon plant grows, you may need to transfer it to a larger pot to give the roots more space.
