Cleveland Browns General Manager Andrew Berry has shut down speculation that team owner Jimmy Haslam interfered in the franchise’s reported interest in drafting quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Speaking to local media, Berry clarified that all football decisions, including scouting and draft strategy, remain within the purview of the front office and coaching staff.
“Jimmy lets us do our jobs,” Berry stated firmly. “He supports us, but he’s not in the war room making picks.”
The rumor mill began churning after reports linked the Browns to Sanders, the talented son of Hall of Famer and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders. With Sanders generating national attention, some speculated that Haslam may have been pushing for the flashy pick to boost the team’s profile and capitalize on media buzz.
However, Berry emphasized that the team’s interest in Sanders—or any prospect—is strictly based on football evaluations, not outside pressure or marketing appeal. “We evaluate players based on talent, fit, and how they can help us win,” Berry said. “That’s it.”
Shedeur Sanders has drawn considerable attention ahead of the NFL Draft, praised for his accuracy, leadership, and high football IQ. Still, it remains unclear whether the Browns will ultimately target him.
