World No. 1 Coco Gauff and World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka are set to take center stage at Montreal’s IGA Stadium as they lead a powerhouse lineup for the 2025 National Bank Open. They’ll be joined by two-time defending champion Jessica Pegula, forming a blockbuster trio at the top of the women’s draw.
This year’s tournament marks a historic expansion, with a 96-player main draw—the largest in the event’s history—as the NBO adopts a new 12-day format. The WTA’s top 68 players will compete, including four entrants via protected rankings, setting the stage for one of the most competitive editions to date.
Sabalenka enters Montreal in peak form. The Belarusian star, now a three-time Grand Slam champion, holds a 44–8 record in 2025, bolstered by titles in Miami and Madrid, and a runner-up finish at the French Open.
Meanwhile, Gauff is riding high after claiming her second Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros, where she defeated Sabalenka in the final. The 20-year-old American boasts a 31–10 record this season and looks poised to continue her impressive ascent.
Home fans will have plenty to cheer for with at least three Canadians featured in the main draw. Laval’s Leylah Fernandez (World No. 38) returns for her sixth appearance, while rising star Victoria Mboko of Toronto and 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu (Mississauga, Ont.) have both received wild cards. Mboko, who impressed with a strong run at Wimbledon before falling in the second round, is one of Canada’s brightest young hopes.
World No. 3 Jessica Pegula is also looking to make history. After winning last year’s title in Toronto, she became the first woman since Martina Hingis (2000) to defend the NBO crown. She enters this year’s tournament with three titles already in hand—Charleston, Austin, and Bad Homburg—marking her most successful season yet.
The rest of the WTA Top 10 is also expected in Montreal, including Iga Swiatek (No. 4), Jasmine Paolini (No. 5), Qinwen Zheng (No. 6), Mirra Andreeva (No. 7), Madison Keys (No. 8), Paula Badosa (No. 9), and Emma Navarro (No. 10).
Rounding out the star-studded field are past champions Elina Svitolina (No. 13) and Belinda Bencic (No. 35), along with Wimbledon winners Barbora Krejcikova (No. 16), Marketa Vondrousova (No. 73), and Elena Rybakina (No. 11).
The tournament kicks off with qualifying rounds on July 26, while main-draw action begins July 27 and runs through August 7. The top 32 seeds will receive first-round byes, entering the fray on either July 29 or 30.
