Derek Carr, affectionately known as DC4, has officially announced his retirement from the NFL following a long battle with a lingering shoulder injury. The 33-year-old former Pro Bowler and longtime face of the Raiders franchise revealed that despite his best efforts to return to full health, his body could no longer allow him to compete at the level he desired.
Carr’s retirement marks the end of an era for the Silver & Black. Drafted in 2014, he spent nine memorable seasons with the Raiders, becoming the team’s all-time leader in nearly every major quarterback category. Known for his leadership, toughness, and commitment to the organization, Carr led the Raiders to two playoff appearances under two different head coaches—Jack Del Rio and Rich Bisaccia—making him the only quarterback in franchise history to do so in both Oakland and Las Vegas.
Although his final NFL chapter took place with the New Orleans Saints, Carr’s heart remained with the Raiders, where he earned four Pro Bowl selections and the admiration of Raider Nation. He retires with a legacy that places him firmly among the top 5–10 quarterbacks in team history.
Carr’s departure is a bittersweet moment for fans, who appreciate the adversity he faced—coaching changes, inconsistent rosters, and injuries—but still gave his all for the franchise.
