DIY Avocado and Carrot Oil for Hair Growth
Ingredients:
- 2 ripe avocados
- 4 large carrots
- 1 cup coconut oil (optional: extra virgin olive oil)
- 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil (optional, for added benefits)
Equipment:
- Blender or food processor
- Cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer
- Glass jar or bottle for storage
- Saucepan
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
- Avocados: Cut the avocados in half, remove the pits, and scoop out the flesh into a blender or food processor.
- Carrots: Wash and peel the carrots. Grate them using a grater or chop them into small pieces and add them to the blender.
Step 2: Blend the Ingredients
- Blend the avocado and carrots until you achieve a smooth, consistent mixture. If the mixture is too thick, you can add a small amount of coconut oil to help it blend better.
Step 3: Heat the Mixture
- Transfer the blended mixture into a saucepan.
- Add the cup of coconut oil to the saucepan (or extra virgin olive oil if preferred).
- Heat the mixture over low heat, stirring occasionally. Allow it to simmer for about 30-45 minutes. This will help the nutrients from the avocado and carrots infuse into the oil. Be careful not to let it boil.
Step 4: Strain the Oil
- After heating, let the mixture cool slightly.
- Use a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer to strain the oil into a glass jar or bottle. Squeeze or press the mixture to extract as much oil as possible.
Step 5: Add Vitamin E Oil
- If desired, add 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil to the strained oil. This will help preserve the oil and add additional hair benefits.
- Mix well to combine.
Step 6: Store and Use
- Store the avocado and carrot oil in a cool, dark place. It should last for several weeks to a few months.
- To use, massage a small amount of the oil into your scalp and hair. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for a deep conditioning treatment. Wash your hair thoroughly afterward with shampoo.
Benefits:
- Avocado Oil: Rich in vitamins A, D, and E, avocado oil helps to moisturize and strengthen hair, promoting growth and preventing breakage.
- Carrot Oil: Packed with beta-carotene and vitamin A, carrot oil nourishes the scalp, improves blood circulation, and can help stimulate hair growth.
- Coconut Oil: Known for its deep conditioning properties, coconut oil helps to reduce protein loss and keep hair healthy and shiny.
- Vitamin E Oil: Acts as a powerful antioxidant, protecting hair from damage and promoting overall scalp health.
